There were few clear cut chances in the 1st half although united hit the bar when beks shot from a tight angle. The 2nd half started in simslar fashion with both teams defeending well. With 20 mins left thorpe produced a good sequence of passes and the ball was knocked through to beks who knocked the ball neatly past the advancing keeper. B ut when thorpe failed to deal with a corner swanton took advantage and equalised..once again the girls showed their character and more good football ended with midge moving into the area and curling an excellent shot over the keeper and in. This proved to be the winner and rounded off what has been an excellent season for thorpe utd, well done to all the girls and we look foward to competing in div 1 next season
MULBARTON 2 THORPE UTD 2
with thorpe already confirmed as champions and mulbarton runners up this was always going to be a close game.Mulbarton took an early lead when thorpe failed to deal with a corner and a near post header found its way into the net. It took a while for thorpe to find their rythymbut gradually they came into the game. Thorpe equalised when mulbarton only managed to clear a corner to the edge of the box where alice picked it up and drilled her sht low itno the corner of the net. there were chances at either end before the break with thrope going closest to taking the lead when beks pace took her through and she knocked the ball past the keeper, but her shot hit the inside of the post and rolled along the goal line and the keeper got back to smoother it..The 2nd half was also very even with both teams giving 100% effort and committment. Thorpe had a great chance when beks got through again but blasted over from close range. But her pace paid off soon after when through once again she calmly smashed the ball past the keeper. ALDBOROUGH 0 THORPE UTD 6
after another frustrating period of 5weeks without a league match thorpe finally returned to action with the task of trying to keep their momentum going at the top of the league. As the match started it was clear to see that the girls had kept their focus and their early brightness was rewarded when charlotte slotted home a neat volley in the 4th minute. United had a series of corners but couldnt convert any despite jo's good deliveries. Aldborough looked dangerous on the break but kirsty and her defence were coping well and looking solid.Beks extended the lead after half an hour when she broke through lions defence and finished well, then just before the break jo decieved the goalkeeper shooting low into the corner rather than crossing as she expected to make it 3-0.The first 20 mins of the second half were fairly even but when charlotte scored her second thorpe took control again and soon after won a penalty, Bethan stepped up to take it but the keeper pulled off a great save. It wasnt long however before jo smashed in no5 and then charlotte completed her hatrick to round off the scoring and cap her p.o.m display
KINGS LYNN 5 THORPE UNITED 5
The game kicked off in awful weather conditions however Thorpe managed to take an early lead when Bex rounded the keeper and cooly slotted the ball home. Kings Lynn responded well as Thorpe seemed to relax and they equalised when a shot was half saved by Kirsty and the rebound was knocked in. Soon after a Lynn player ran through unchallenged from half way to give the home side the lead. The Lynn girls were coping much better with the conditions and made it 3-1 scoring derictly from a free kick. Thorpe moved up a gear in the second half creating a couple of clear cut opportunities to score before Charlotte got them back in the game with a close range finish. Then Jo wipped in a corner and it was turned into the net by a defender to equalise the scores. But Kings Lynn came back and retook the lead when a shot rebounded off the bar and again a forward was there forst to knock it home. It looked like game over when another free kick given just outside the box flew past everyone and in to make it 5-3. With just 7 minutes left Charlotte finished a good move to give Thorpe a life line. With time running out Milly struck home an excellent shot from the edge of the area to level and cap a player of the match display.
THORPE UTD 12 HOCKERING O
Having not played since jan 4th thorpe were grateful for the match and although it was very one-sided it proved a useful exercise for various reasons, Midge scored on her return from injury, two of the u16 squad made their senior debuts lauren & abby playing well with abby scoring twice. with leading scorer beks not playing kat and jo stepped up to the plate jo scoring a hatrick and kat a brace. But the undoubted highlight of the day was Mandy's first ever goal for the club and it was the best goal of the match as she went past two defenders and rifled the ball into the roof of the net from the edge of the box which led to wild celebrations from the whole team. the other goals came from Bethan, Kim & Emily and although she didnt get onthe scoresheet her overall performance earned sian the p.o.m award
THORPE UTD 10 ACLE 2
This game was alot closer than the scoreline suggests and was hugely entertaining for the large crowd. It was aday when everything went right for thorpe.beks was in scintilating form scoring almost every chance she had to grab 4 goals, charlotte was controlling midfield and got a hatrick all with long range efforts that flew past the goalie , and just as acle were having a good spell to get back in the game Kirsty saved a penalty superbly getting down to her right to push the ball round the post. The match was only 10 minutes old when sian struck a volley sweetly into the acle net to get the scoring underway. Bex soon added a second then Acle pusheed forward and scored to make it 2-1. However 2 from Charlotte and another Bex strike made it 5-1 at half time. Bex added 2 more at the start of the second half before Acle enjoyed their best spell scoring and then straight after being awarded the penaltly only to be denied a third goal by Kirsty. Charlotte completed her hatrick, Sarah scored another screamer from distance and Emily who had been superb all afternoon nodded in to cap her player of the match performance with her goal.
Thorpe United 9 Aldborough Lions 1
Having gone alomost two months without a leauge game Thorpe showed they were more than hungry for this match against a spirited Aldborough side.It didn't take Milly long to give United the lead when she shot home from the edge of the box. Lions tried to push forward and caused some anxious moments in the Thorpe defence.United though were beginning to find their passing and a lovely move saw Kat finish well from close range. More chances followed and both Bex and Alice fired shots against the bar, but there was no further scoring before the break. Charlotte got the third early in the second half and as the Lions began to tire further further goals came from Sarah and Emily, on their return from injury, Beks grabbed a brace, Charlotte got her second with a sweet volley and Alice got the goal her performance deserved to complete the scoring for Thorpe. As the game came to an end Aldborough broke away and scored the goal their efforts deserved.
